Designed as a landscaped parkland
The vision for Nepean Gardens is based on the principle that memorial parks play an important social role in the community they serve, a role that continues long after the cemetery has reached capacity. The beautiful landscaped gardens and walks will protect the natural beauty and rural vistas and provide the community with a lasting community asset.
Maintaining + protecting the future
The memorial park will accommodate up to 27,000 burial spaces in discrete burial rooms to reduce visual impact. The site will provide an administration building and a multi-denominational chapel with magnificent views to the Blue Mountains, all of which sits in a peaceful landscaped setting.
The memorial park design is based on four key principles:
- Sustainability
- Multi-culturalism
- Legacy building
- Impact minimisation – visual, physical, social and environmental
There will be a variety of memorials available for the community at Nepean Gardens from lawn graves, full monumental graves to garden memorials for cremated remains. The proposal has minimal impact on sensitive vegetation and existing trees and restores riparian and wildlife corridors which have been neglected.
Key sustainable principles integrated into the landscape design:
- Water efficiency measures
- Sustainable materials
- Waste management
- Stormwater management
- Climate change adaptability
- Community development
- Ecology and biodiversity enhancement
