ST JOHNS BOWLING CLUB ACQUIRES WALLACIA CLUB HOUSE IN WALLACIA AND ANNOUNCES MAJOR RE-DEVLOPMENT
St Johns Park Bowling Club Group has acquired the clubhouse and surrounding area at Wallacia Golf Club and plans a $10 million upgrade of the precinct over the next two years. St Johns acquired the clubhouse precinct for the development of a range of amenities to create a hub for the whole community who want to play sport, relax and entertain their friends, family and customers.
The facilities will feature an upgraded restaurant, function and gaming areas, hydrotherapy and 25/50 metre swimming pool, gymnasium bowling green and upgraded 9 hole golf course. St Johns Parking Bowling Club CEO, David Marsh, said “Our redevelopment of the clubhouse and facilities, with the addition of new amenities, will create an exciting new hub for the Wallacia community.
“Our research of club members and the wider Wallacia community shows the vast majority are enthusiastic about the redevelopment of the facilities, which have lost more than $250,000 over the last 18 months and millions of dollars over the last 10 years.
“The clubhouse has been deteriorating over many years and faces a very bleak future without approval being given for the redevelopment by the Sydney Western City Planning Panel over the next few months.
“St Johns Park Bowling Club has been a member of the Nepean district for many years, financially supporting a wide range of organisations, and we do not want the club to die”, he added.
Meanwhile the golf course will be upgraded with a new design and extensive landscaping and new irrigation system. While the size of the course will be reduced in size to make way for memorial parklands, there will be significant improvement to the grounds to retain the course’s status for 18 hole pennant competitions.
Mr Marsh said “the members are delighted with the plan to upgrade the
golf course, which will feature first class fairways and greens, as
well as greater investment in its ongoing maintenance.
“It is a shame that a small number of special interest groups are
continuing to voice their opposition without looking at the facts and
talking to the members of the club, who overwhelmingly approve of our
plans”, he added.
Also receiving wider acceptance is the vastly reduced plans of the proposed memorial parklands to also be located on the site, covering 21 hectares instead of the original 44 hectares.
The parklands will feature a range of superb landscapes and walkways, with the number of burial spaces – the majority to be marked with inground plaques – reduced from 88,000 (covering 44 hectares) to 27,000 (21 hectares).
Catholic Cemeteries Ltd will adopt the latest overseas trends in creating parklands for families to enjoy, with discreet ‘rooms’ for burial sites without intrusive headstones.
